My artworks are records, physical manifestations of the actions taken to bring them into being. Through painting, drawing, and collage, I seek harmony between conflicting ideas and emotions. I balance mechanical schemes with expressionist mark making, intention with indeterminacy, and the fear of uncertainty with joyful discovery in the act of creation. Abstraction makes these concepts material, emphasizing the artwork’s objecthood, the processes it underwent, and the hands that made it.

The tension between calculated actions and chance is essential to my practice. Numerical sequences meet with randomness and automatism, synthesizing personal expression and unconscious emotion with material characteristics and chance outcomes. I draw on the history of performance and conceptual art, minimalism, and abstract expressionism. I also channel my surroundings, personal relationships, and memories into the work. My touch is always evident.

I am interested in reframing the interaction between artist, art object, and viewer. Both by questioning the activity and passivity of their roles and by bringing them together. Artmaking is inherently collaborative, a fact that I embrace in my practice.
